How do you find the parents of a child who was adopted through a private adoption?

My friend was adopted privatley in Chicago. He would like to locate his biological parents but does not know where to start. I am not too familiar with private adoptions (as far as how they work in Chicago, etc).

Would any one have any advice as to where he should start his search? He does not have a lot of money to hire a private PI so this would be a search that he will need to do on his own.How do you find the parents of a child who was adopted through a private adoption?

All the very best with the search. How do you find the parents of a child who was adopted through a private adoption?
ask the lawyer who handled it. better yet, try a plea with the admin asst. at the firm.
Like myself I was adopted at the age of four.I found my birth mother by accident.Someone knew the name that I said and stated that the woman never said she had children.I then went to the address that was provided for me and it was my mother. My advice to you is start from the State and City you were living in before you got adopted. If you know your parents name someone will know where they are.My mother never left the State or City where I was born.
Start by registering and searching as many registries as you can find. These are good ones

Next find a search and support group with folks who know the ropes, specific to the area you are searching

Best of luck
Most agency, if they have a letter, after the person is of age, on file, if the other party get in tough, they can give out information

I would, if it's 18, contract the agency that did his adoption, or the lawyer
Start with his adoptive parents, they quite often have info.
